From the Kenyan Blue Community KYWP – Kisumu Youth WASH Parliament:
At the inaugural Lake Victoria Day Celebrations 2026 in Mwanza, we witnessed East Africa come together around one urgent truth: the future of Lake Victoria depends on what we do now.
Across the week, conversations around the #SOBR2025 and the launch of the IWRM Strategy highlighted a reality communities already know too well: floods are becoming harsher, water pollution is deepening, biodiversity is declines But we also witnessed collective resolve.
We were honored to receive the Youth in Sustainability and Champion Restoration Award from the East African Community-Lake Victoria Basin Commission Secretariat.
Behind this recognition is resilience:communities rebuilding after floods, young people showing up despite limited resources, and the belief that restoration is still possible.
