🎤 Last night, Atlantic Fellows for Social Equity (AFSE) had the privilege of hosting the launch of People, Place and Nature in Indigenous-Settler Relations: Recentering the More-than-Human World, the new publication by Melissa Kennedy (C23) and Dr Erin O’Donnell.
The evening featured a thoughtful panel discussion with contributors Maddison Miller and Jade Hadfield (C23), moderated by AFSE Executive Director, Damien Miller (C18). Together, they explored what it means to decentre the “human” and reframe research, relationships and responsibility through more-than-human perspectives.
It’s inspiring to see the powerful work being led by our Senior Fellows and their collaborators — work that challenges dominant thinking and opens new ways of understanding people, place and nature.
📖 About the book:
The collection shows how words – spoken, written, sung, or remembered – carry the potential to unsettle colonial narratives, rename spaces and histories, and renew responsibilities to Country. It foregrounds Indigenous-led responses to the intertwined harms of colonisation and environmental degradation, asking what it means to resist extraction and actively regenerate relationships with land, water, whānau, and future generations.
