☀️💧 Rural Potable Water Systems in Petorca Commune Will Use Solar Energy.
The Petorca commune secured nearly 900 million pesos in funding to implement a project that will incorporate solar energy into the operation of the region’s Rural Potable Water (APR) systems.
The initiative, called “Construction of an On-Grid Photovoltaic System for APR Services,” involves the implementation of a photovoltaic plant that will generate electricity to supply the commune’s various APR committees.
The project received an investment of approximately 853 million pesos and aims to significantly reduce the electricity costs of rural potable water systems, while also moving towards greater energy sustainability.
The Mayor of Petorca, Gustavo Henríquez, highlighted that this project has been in development for quite some time in conjunction with the Regional Government and the Ministry of Energy due to its technical complexity. “This is a very important project for our municipality and especially for the Rural Potable Water Systems (APR), because it will significantly reduce operating costs associated with electricity consumption. We have worked for a long time with the Regional Government and the Ministry of Energy to move forward with this initiative, which also aims for a more sustainable municipality,” stated Mayor Gustavo Henríquez.
The mayor also emphasized that Rural Potable Water Systems are a priority for the current municipal administration due to their importance to hundreds of families in different sectors of the municipality. “The APR systems are essential for our rural communities, and that is why we are working hard to strengthen their operation, improve their operational conditions, and expand coverage so that more and more people can access drinking water in the municipality of Petorca,” added the mayor.
As he explained, the energy produced by the plant will allow the electricity consumption of the rural water systems in the commune to be offset, and even project in the future a possible exemption from electricity payments for these systems.
