UN warns water factor is underestimated in urban development.
Housing policy can no longer be developed separately from water supply and water resource management, as water is the foundation of sustainable urban development, UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Water Retno Marsudi said during a panel session within the framework of the World Urban Forum 13.
Report quotes her as saying a water-oriented approach in urban development is of key importance, as it directly affects public health, inclusiveness, and the sustainability of economic growth.
Marsudi stressed that water is the foundation of sustainable urban development, but this factor is still insufficiently considered in urban planning.
