Budget 2026–27: Adequate Allocation Needed for Water and Sanitation Budget.
Although around 70 per cent of the earth is covered by water, only about three per cent is freshwater suitable for drinking, household use, agriculture, and industry, while the remaining 97 per cent is saline water. In recent times, scarcity of safe drinking water has become a global concern. Many experts even predict that future conflicts may arise over access to freshwater. While alternatives to fossil fuel may exist, there is no substitute for water when it comes to sustaining life. In this context, ensuring the right to water has become a priority worldwide, including in Bangladesh.
