Blue Community at Baghdad University

On the invitation of the Middle Technical University (MTU) – Polytechnic Engineering College, Baghdad, Iraq, Blue Community Network Coordinator Roland Brunner held an online presentation about the global network for the human right to water and sanitation and the opportunities for the university to become a Blue Community and join this network. The presentation was very well received and we look forward to receive the commitment from the university to join in – as the second partner in the new Blue Community Chapter MENA, the Middle East and North Africa region.

​Dear Mr. Roland Brunner,
​I am thrilled to share the wonderful news that the Middle Technical University (MTU), specifically our Polytechnic College for Engineering Specialties in Baghdad, as well as myself personally, have officially embraced and joined the Blue Community network.
​As an Assistant Professor specializing in Water Resources and Environmental Engineering, I see this not just as an honor, but as a profound responsibility to innovate. Our engineering and polytechnic background gives us a unique leverage to translate the Blue Community principles into high-impact, practical technological solutions.
​Moving forward, our immediate additions and contributions to the network will focus on:
​Smart Water Management & AI: Merging IoT sensors and Artificial Intelligence to monitor and protect the water quality of the Tigris River in Baghdad in real-time.
​Nature-based Solutions (NbS): Implementing eco-friendly, nature-based engineering solutions and deep mixing soil techniques to combat riverbank erosion and environmental degradation.
​The Blue Living Lab: Transforming our campus by installing advanced, solar-powered public water refilling stations to officially phase out single-use plastic bottles.
​Public-Public Partnerships: Strengthening our technical consultations with local public water authorities in Baghdad to enhance public water distribution and safety.
​We are excited to share our progress, research data, and engineering models with the global network, showcasing how technical education in Iraq can champion the human right to water.
