Recently the Blue Community designated its first partners in the new Blue Community Chapter MENA, the Middle East and North Africa. We are delighted to announce that we can build now on a volunteer representative to promote and support the Blue Community as our MENA Representative:
Ibrahim Al-Qadhi brings with him more than 17 years of experience in water, sanitation, public health, climate-resilient infrastructure, and humanitarian development across the Middle East and North Africa.
Born and raised in Yemen, one of the world’s most water-scarce and crisis-affected contexts, Ibrahim’s commitment to water justice is rooted in lived experience. He studied Civil Engineering at Sana’a University and later earned a Master of Business Administration with distinction from the Arab Academy for Management, Banking and Financial Sciences, combining technical expertise with leadership, governance, and institutional management.
Ibrahim spent more than eight years with the International Committee of the Red Cross in Water and Habitat programming before joining UNICEF as a WASH Specialist. His work has supported large-scale water, sanitation, environmental health, school WASH, climate-resilient infrastructure, and emergency response initiatives in Yemen, with additional missions and technical contributions in Egypt, Libya, and regional settings. Through this work, he has contributed to improving access to essential services for displaced families, vulnerable communities, and children affected by conflict, water scarcity, and institutional fragility.
Beyond project delivery, Ibrahim has contributed to technical studies, regional coordination, programme strategy, and policy-oriented discussions on water systems, service continuity, and water governance in fragile contexts. His work has been recognized through UNICEF global team recognition in 2017, his contribution to WASH in schools in Yemen was featured in UNICEF’s 2020 global education reporting, and he received the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Award for the Arabic Language in 2013. He has also received commendations from UNICEF leadership at global and regional levels for his commitment, values, and field leadership.
As Blue Community MENA Representative, Ibrahim advocates for water as a human right, a public good, and a shared responsibility. He believes that individuals, institutions, and communities can each play a meaningful role in advancing justice, sustainability, accountability, and collective action toward a more equitable water future.
