From Blue Community Ambassador Erin O’Donnell, Associate Professor and ARC DECRA Fellow at Melbourne Law School, Australia:
A huge thank you to everyone who spent time with me in Berlin as part of my Blue Communities visit! Thank you Michael Bender and Tobias Schäfer for hosting two amazing events on living rivers, where it was an absolute pleasure to meet kaa Faensen and Hendrik von Schlieben and learn about their advocacy for the rights of the river Spree, and Steffen Schorcht with his advocacy for environmental protection against the predations of new industries.
I had a wonderful time with Daniel Sanderson, speaking with high school students about Indigenous water justice. It was inspirational to visit Edwin Nolde at his pilot water recycling facility and learn about his advances in this field. Meeting Johanna Erdman was a real joy, as one of the leaders of the successful movement to create the Berlin Blue Community.
And I had a perfect final day in Berlin with Angela Schwerdtfeger in the utterly gorgeous Volkspark Friedrichshain.
Final thank you to Roland Brunner for connecting us all!
Next stop, Vienna!
