From the Indian Blue Community Vaidic Srijan:

Climate change and biodiversity loss result in profound societal and economic risks. The last decade has seen unprecedented levels of water and food crises, natural disasters, interstate conflict, social instability, involuntary migration, and many other threats to the planet. We are fast approaching critical climate tipping points. As of today:

  • We have lost 10% of wilderness in 20 years
  • We have lost nearly 60% of more than 3,000 species between 1970 and 2010
  • We are losing up to 75% of insects • 90% of all global fisheries are fully or over exploited, or have collapsed altogether
  • Every year, we lose 20,000 elephants to poaching, 18 million hectares of rainforest to logging, and an estimated 50,000 species

The future, if we continue on this path: By 2030

  • Demand for food will increase by 35%
  • Demand for water will increase by 40%
  • Demand for energy will increase by 50%

By 2050

  • 25 million kilometers of new roads will be built
  • Average patch size of tropical forests will decrease from 17 hectares to 0.25 hectares
  • Terrestrial biodiversity will decrease by 10%

Nature-based solutions (NbS) can help reverse these losses. That’s why IUCN came up with the standard for NbS, which was ratified by UNEP, and the same is being implemented across the member countries. This video not just lays the foundation and defines the global standard for NbS, but also evaluates the solutions offerings from Vaidic Srijan on the same parameters.
