Heat Wave Mitigation Strategy for Vulnerable Workforce in India. Webinar Participation Note.

Samir Kumar participated in today’s webinar focused on Heat Wave Mitigation and Climate Resilience for vulnerable communities and workforce groups in India.
During the webinar, it was highlighted that the Government of India has identified 12 pilot cities for implementation of Heat Wave Mitigation Programs aimed at protecting vulnerable populations, particularly outdoor and informal workforce groups exposed to extreme climatic conditions.
The projected investment for each pilot city is approximately ₹5 Crores, focusing on public health protection, climate adaptation infrastructure, early warning systems, cooling mechanisms, water security, and community resilience planning.

Proposed Activities
- Heat Wave Early Warning System: Community alerts and digital communication systems
- Safe Drinking Water Access: Water kiosks, mobile water distribution and hydration centres
- Cooling Infrastructure: Cooling shelters, shaded public spaces and green corridor
- Public Health Support: ORS distribution, medical camps and emergency response
- Worker Protection Measures: Rest breaks, safety awareness and protective arrangements
- Urban Greening: Plantation and heat-resilient biodiversity initiatives
- Community Awareness: Heat wave education and behavioural awareness campaigns
- Climate Data & Monitoring: Temperature mapping and vulnerability assessments
