🌍 The 2026 Global Water Policy Report reveals something important about the future of water action.
Listening to national water leaders from 102 countries, the report shows that the main barriers to progress are not simply a lack of solutions. They are financing, governance, inadequate infrastructure, institutional fragmentation and access to reliable data.
This points to a critical gap between ambition and implementation.
Perhaps one of the most powerful findings is that 96% of respondents consider hashtag#SDG6 useful, particularly because it helps drive priority setting and resource allocation.
The SDGs should not only be used to label impact after an investment has been made. They can help determine where investment should go in the first place.
🚨And the challenge goes beyond water quantity. Only 11% believe the target on protecting and restoring water-related ecosystems is achievable, while only 40% believe the water quality target can be achieved.
📢 Positive Water Impact cannot therefore be reduced to a number of cubic metres. Quantity, quality, location, ecosystems and basin priorities all matter.
The solutions increasingly exist. The next challenge is to connect water priorities, credible projects, capital, governance and measurable outcomes.
