New Curriculum: Bachelor’s degree in Water and Environmental Projects Engineering Technologies (First cycle).

I am delighted to share the official, newly approved Academic Curriculum (2026-2027) for our department (Water and Environmental Projects Engineering Technologies). This comprehensive four-year curriculum (240 ECTS) has been structurally aligned to dynamically translate the core vision, sustainability goals, and ethics of the Blue Community into concrete academic action.

As part of this transition, we have structured an immediate 3-month capacity-building and curriculum framework for this Autumn, driven by three core pillars that perfectly mirror our official modules:

This is backed by our official courses like Human Rights (MTU1006), Ethics of the Profession (MTU1008), and Regulations in Water Resources (WEP4810).

Smart Eco-Hydrology (AI & IoT): Introducing modern technologies—specifically deploying smart sensors and controllers—spearheaded by our upcoming “Digital Tigris Lab” framework to monitor river ecosystems. This directly aligns with our advanced modules: Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for Water Resources (WEP3506) and Intelligent Water Monitoring Systems (WEP4702).

Nature-based Solutions (NbS): Equipping our students with ecological strategies for river restoration and creating a plastic-free campus. This is structurally supported by modules such as Sustainable Water Resources (WEP1210), Phytotechnology for Sustainable Water Systems (WEP2304), and Environmental Sustainability Techniques (WEP3505).

2. Smart Eco-Hydrology: AI & IoT Applications in Water Monitoring

AI in combating desertification, IoT hardware for river monitoring, and the Digital Tigris Lab.

3. Nature-based Solutions (NbS): Building a Plastic-Free Blue Zone
Tuesday, Nov 17, 2026
NbS for river restoration, preventing erosion, and eliminating single-use plastics on campus.

This official curriculum stands as our solid blueprint, proving that MTU is fundamentally reshaping the mindset of future water engineers to protect our shared water commons.

Because this curriculum serves as a dynamic and evolving academic framework, it creates an exceptional opportunity for collaboration with the global Blue Community network. We warmly invite the Blue Community to actively contribute to and enrich different components of this program by sharing expertise, participating in educational activities, and supporting the development of innovative, sustainability-focused initiatives that will benefit both our students and the wider international community.

This curriculum serves as our official institutional launchpad for achieving our long-term water sustainability goals. It translates the core principles and values of the Blue Community network into structured, credit-bearing engineering courses and academic modules. By establishing this solid academic foundation, we have ensured that water ethics, smart technologies, and nature-based solutions are no longer treated as complementary or extracurricular topics, but are fully integrated into the core curriculum of our institution. This approach equips future engineers with the knowledge, skills, and ethical responsibility needed to protect water as a shared public resource and to advance sustainable water management.
