JustGreenTz recently conducted a Climathon 🥳 in the Morogoro Region.
CLIMATHON MOROGORO 2026.
Climathon Morogoro 2026 brought together 50 young innovators from Mzumbe University, Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA), Jordan University College, and Muslim University of Morogoro from across the Morogoro Region for a two-day climate innovation hackathon. The event challenged participants to develop practical and scalable solutions to local climate challenges, with a particular focus on climate-smart agriculture, circular economy, waste management, and community resilience.
The event was organized through a collaborative partnership between JustGreenTz, Empower Her, Kilimo Smart, and the Ufaulu Project, with support from Climate KIC Tanzania and funding from the Embassy of Ireland through Irish Aid. Together, the partners created a dynamic platform where young people could learn, collaborate, and transform innovative ideas into impactful climate solutions.
Day One focused on capacity building, collaboration, and innovation. Participants explored climate challenges affecting Morogoro, took part in interactive learning sessions on climate innovation and entrepreneurship, worked through the Climate Causality Framework, and developed innovative ideas with guidance from experienced mentors and facilitators. The day concluded with teams refining their concepts and preparing their pitches for the final showcase.
Day Two featured the much-anticipated Demo Day, where teams pitched their solutions before a panel of judges. The most promising innovations were awarded seed funding to help transform their ideas into viable climate solutions with the potential to create lasting environmental and social impact.
As a proud partner, JustGreenTz played an active role throughout the Climathon. Our Executive Director, Maria Mukami, served as one of the judges, while facilitators from the JustGreenTz team and our dedicated Green Ambassadors mentored participants, facilitated interactive sessions, and supported the successful delivery of activities across both days.
Climathon Morogoro 2026 demonstrated the power of youth-led innovation, collaboration, and partnerships in addressing climate challenges. By equipping young innovators with knowledge, mentorship, networks, and early-stage financial support, the event strengthened the capacity of the next generation of climate leaders to build a more sustainable and resilient Tanzania.
