💧 The Arab Countries Water Utilities Association and IHE Delft Hold the Founding Meeting of the Regional Alliance for Circular Reuse.
The Arab Countries Water Utilities Association (ACWUA), in cooperation with the IHE Delft Institute for Water Education, inaugurated the founding meeting of the Regional Alliance for Circular Reuse, held in Amman, Jordan, on July 27, 2026. The meeting brought together approximately 50 experts and representatives from neighboring countries, including ministries, water utilities, universities, research institutions, regional and international organizations, and development partners.
The Alliance was established to enhance regional cooperation in the field of safe circular reuse of water and resources, and to create a common framework for exchanging knowledge and expertise and developing innovative solutions. This will contribute to addressing the challenges of water scarcity and climate change, and to strengthening water and food security in the Arab region and North Africa.
The first day of the meeting included opening and technical sessions that reviewed the Alliance’s vision and strategic objectives, its role as a regional platform for coordination and cooperation among institutions working in the water sector, and discussed opportunities for capacity building and the development of policies and tools to support circular reuse.
The meeting also featured two specialized technical working groups:

🔹 **Sludge Reuse and Organic Resource Recovery**
Participants discussed national experiences, shared challenges, regional priorities, and proposed activities to enhance cooperation and the exchange of expertise in the coming phase.
Participants emphasized the importance of establishing a sustainable regional platform that brings together relevant expertise and institutions, and supports the development of practical, knowledge-based, and innovative solutions. This will promote the transition to a circular economy in the water sector and contribute to the sustainable management of water resources in the region.
