Water is a scarce resource in some regions, but in Germany, private gardens can be watered liberally without a permit, even during dry periods. The Association of Municipal Enterprises is calling for a change in thinking.
In light of climate change, more frequent droughts, and dwindling groundwater resources, the Association of Municipal Enterprises (VKU) is calling for stricter regulations on water extraction. “Uses that do not require a permit must be restricted as much as possible,” VKU Vice President Karsten Specht told the Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung . This also includes private use.
