Navigating Tanzania’s position in global ‘water bankruptcy’.
WATER is a vital resource without which life sustenance is impossible. It is critical to protect water resources by planting trees, halting deforestation, and preventing farming activities near water sources. As a result of climate change and global warming, some freshwater sources along ocean shorelines have become saline, making them unusable for drinking.
Climate change and global warming have also driven severe water scarcity across many regions. Consequently, global discussions have shifted from a general water crisis to “global water bankruptcy”, a term highlighted in a landmark 2026 report by the United Nations University Institute for Water, Environment and Health (UNU-INWEH).
