Access to clean, safe water is often taken for granted, yet for thousands of families in Detroit it has become a daily struggle. Over recent years, more than 100,000 households have experienced water shutoffs due to unpaid utility bills, leaving many residents without one of life’s most basic necessities. Beyond the inconvenience, losing access to running water can have devastating consequences for health, sanitation, housing stability, and family life. At the center of efforts to address this crisis is Monica Lewis-Patrick, President and CEO of We The People of Detroit, an organization dedicated to ensuring that every resident has access to water during times of need.
