Yuva Vikas Samiti Joins International Blue Community Network.
Organization to Strengthen Global Efforts for Water Conservation and Water Rights.
Basti, Uttar Pradesh: In a major milestone for the social development sector, Yuva Vikas Samiti, a leading voluntary organization based in Basti district of Uttar Pradesh, has become an official member of the International Blue Community Network, a global movement committed to recognizing water as a fundamental human right and promoting sustainable, equitable water governance.
The organization successfully fulfilled all the membership requirements of the Blue Community and was awarded its official membership certificate by Roland Brunner, representing the international network. To celebrate the achievement, office bearers, staff members, and volunteers gathered at the organization’s headquarters in Mishrauliya, Basti.
Addressing the gathering, Brihaspati Kumar Pandey, Secretary of Yuva Vikas Samiti, congratulated the organization’s team and described the membership as a proud achievement not only for the institution but also for Basti district and the state of Uttar Pradesh.
He said the Blue Community is a worldwide movement that recognizes water as a fundamental human right, a public trust, and a shared commons. Joining the international network, he noted, will strengthen the organization’s ongoing efforts in water conservation, safe drinking water, rainwater harvesting, restoration of traditional water bodies, and public awareness on sustainable water management.
Mr. Pandey explained that the Blue Community initiative was launched in Canada in 2009 to promote equitable, publicly managed, and environmentally sustainable water governance. The movement expanded into Asia in 2025, and a growing number of Indian organizations are now becoming part of this global initiative. He described the membership as both an honour and a responsibility.
He further stated that Yuva Vikas Samiti plans to expand its activities in the coming years through large-scale campaigns on water conservation, restoration of ponds and traditional water bodies, rainwater harvesting, water literacy, establishment of Water Clubs in educational institutions, and community-based water resource management across rural areas.
The organization also aims to contribute actively towards achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG 6): Clean Water and Sanitation, which seeks universal access to safe and affordable drinking water, improved sanitation, and sustainable management of water resources.
Highlighting the growing global water crisis, Mr. Pandey said that climate change, declining groundwater levels, and increasing water pollution have made water conservation one of the most urgent challenges of the 21st century. Protecting water resources, he stressed, requires the active participation of governments, institutions, communities, and individual citizens. Membership in the Blue Community, he added, represents a long-term global commitment to safeguarding water resources for present and future generations.
The staff and volunteers of Yuva Vikas Samiti expressed their happiness over the achievement and reaffirmed their commitment to working with greater dedication towards water conservation and the promotion of water rights.
Notably, Yuva Vikas Samiti has now been officially listed as a member organization on the Blue Community’s international website. The recognition will provide the organization with opportunities to collaborate with global water conservation networks, exchange knowledge and best practices, participate in international campaigns on water justice, and strengthen community-led initiatives for sustainable water management.
