2nd RIO PARDO MISSION | A river marked to resist!

On Sunday, the 2nd Rio Pardo Mission came to an end in Canaveiras, state of Bahia, Brazil. It was organized and carried out by Articulação Rio Pardo. The mission was supported by a large number of organizations and networks, including the Swiss Blue Community HEKS/EPER and the Blue Community Coordination Switzerland.

The 4-day mission, along the Rio Pardo, had two STATIONS, the first in Itarantim and the second in Canaveiras, aimed to strengthen cooperation between communities and organizations along the Rio Pardo and strengthen the exchange of experiences between the various actors. More than 1 million people live in the Rio Pardo watershed. The approximately 600 km long River is of crucial cultural, social and economic importance.

Articulação Rio Pardo includes more than 60 local and regional organizations, grassroots groups and networks.
HEKS/EPER played a decisive role in creating the network and monitors the processes on site. The Swiss Blue Community not only supported the mission financially, but also directly participated in site visits and exchanges by sending Karl Heuberger as its representative and delegate.

With the arrival at the mouth of the Rio Pardo, in Canaveiras, the mission came to an end with the participation of around 70 participants.

For the Swiss Blue Community, Articulação Rio Pardo should be an exciting partner for joint learning and the implementation of concrete projects to implement the right to access quality water. A final report with concrete demands and potential themes and demands for strategic cooperation between Articulação Rio Pardo and the network of Blue Communities in Switzerland will be sent by September 10th containing an indication for the next steps of dialogue.
