63rd Session of the Human Rights Council
The environment is high on the agenda of the 63rd session of the Human Rights Council (HRC63), taking place from 7 September to 9 October 2026, at Palais des Nations. The session will provide an important platform for discussions on the intersection between human rights and environmental challenges, including toxic pollution, water and sanitation, climate finance, biodiversity, Indigenous Peoples’ rights, and sustainable development. The UN Special Rapporteur on the human rights to safe drinking water and sanitation, Pedro Arrojo Agudo, will present his report to the Council focusing on “Making the human right to sanitation a reality for all” (A/HRC/63/34). On the eve of the 2026 UN Water Conference to Accelerate the Implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 6 and the review of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the report calls for renewed commitment to the universal realization of the human right to sanitation for all.
