The Rio Pardo Vivo e Corrente Network in Brazil announces the “2nd Rio Pardo Mission: a river marked for struggle,” an event that will bring together, between August 27 and 30, 2026, in the municipalities of Itarantim and Canavieiras, in Bahia, traditional peoples and communities, popular organizations, social movements, and researchers in an exchange among the peoples who inhabit this basin.
The 2nd Mission will celebrate the historic meeting between the populations of the upper, middle and lower Rio Pardo, continuing the work of the first mission, which began in Rio Pardo de Minas-MG, passed through the Machado Mineiro dam in Águas Vermelhas-MG and ended in Vitória da Conquista, in southwestern Bahia.
This year, starting in Itarantim, the meeting focuses particularly on the theme of mining, an activity that is undergoing considerable expansion through speculation and research in the territories of the basin, connecting the theme with the issues of water, health, the environment, and popular sovereignty.
The Blue Community is part of the mission with local activists and international participants.
