Blue Community Network Gets Global Blue Council.
The Blue Community Network is pleased to announce the establishment of the Blue Community Council, a new international advisory body that will help guide the continued growth and strategic development of the global Blue Community movement. Based on a Charter approved by the Counselors and beyond providing strategic advice, the Blue Community Council seeks to inspire people and communities by sharing successful experiences, practical solutions, encouraging local initiatives, and nurturing hope through action.
Since the launch of the international Blue Community Network in 2024, the movement has expanded rapidly. Today, almost 300 Blue Communities across Africa, Asia, Europe and the Americas are connected through a common platform promoting water and sanitation as human rights, public water services, and the protection of water as a common good. The network includes cities, universities, schools, public water operators and other public institutions, churches and faith-based organizations, labor unions and NGO, and some private companies as well as Blue Community Ambassadors and other partners committed to water justice.
The newly established Blue Community Council unites representatives of Blue Communities and Blue Community Ambassadors from different regions (Chapters) and sectors (Clusters). Its role is to provide strategic advice, strengthen international cooperation, support the development of regional chapters and thematic clusters, and help shape the future direction of the global network.
«The Blue Community has always been built from the bottom up,» says Roland Brunner, coordinator of the Blue Community Network. «The Council reflects this spirit. It is not another layer of bureaucracy, but a platform for dialogue, shared leadership and collective responsibility. As our network grows, so too must the diversity of voices helping to guide it.»
The Council will support the network in strengthening partnerships, promoting peer learning, encouraging joint initiatives, and expanding the Blue Community movement in all regions of the world.
Just as every river begins with countless small springs, the global Blue Community movement grows through the ideas, experiences and commitment of many people around the world.
