Drinking Water Remains Luxury

Senegal – Saint-Louis: in several villages, drinking water remains a luxury.

In Saint-Louis, several villages, including Ndiawdoun, Assitoué, and Nguent Ndiaye, are facing a severe shortage of drinking water. Residents are forced to use river water or travel several kilometers to obtain it. In Nguent Ndiaye, a borehole provides water that is too salty to drink, while in Assitoué, residents are denouncing the prolonged suspension of a water supply project. This situation particularly affects women and children, who face difficulties with household chores, hygiene, and healthcare. The communities are calling on the authorities to intervene quickly, particularly by installing public standpipes and completing the water supply projects. In these villages, drinking water remains a luxury, while the residents are simply demanding the right to sustainable access to water.
