From Dr. Muntasir Alshareef, Professor at the Blue Community / Blue University MTU – Middle Technical University, Baghdad, Iraq:
Dear brothers and sisters in the Blue Community family,
I am delighted to share with you these inspiring snapshots from the heart of the Western Desert in Iraq, where the reality of “transforming deserts into havens” comes to life when community will pairs with ecosystem-based, sustainable technologies.
The photos and videos highlight the stages of this transformation:
Setup and Preparation: Grading the dry land and installing smart irrigation lines (localized micro-irrigation and sprinklers) with high efficiency to conserve every drop of water.
Early Growth: The emergence of the first green shoots and crops amidst the sand—a true symbol of hope and resilience.
Full Transformation: Vibrant scenes of flourishing green fields, young trees, and palms now covering the landscape, turning arid land into a thriving green oasis.
This project embodies our shared vision within the Blue Community to safeguard water resources and restore ecological balance, proving that sustainable water management can bring life back to the land.
