BLUE COMMUNITY EASTERN AFRICA

Stone of Aid, a youth-led professional association of engineers and medical professionals in Tanzania whose primary goal is to ensure that everyone, especially in underserved communities, has access to clean and safe water and adequate sanitation. Stone of Aid joined the Blue Community in March 2025 (see here).

The Ojulu Island Saviours Foundation is the first Blue Community in Uganda. OISF is dedicated to empowering local communities, especially on Uganda‘s islands, and advocating for environmental sustainability, with a particular focus on water access and quality. OISF joined the Blue Community on April 1, 2025.

Population & Development Initiative PDI operates in Kigoma, Geita and Morogoro regions in Tanzania, working in thematic areas of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), Environmental Education, Health and Nutrition, Economic Empowerment and Human Rights and Good Governance. PDI joined the Blue Community on May 20, 2025.

Water Sector Workers Association of Kenya (WASWAK) is a registered umbrella organization that brings together all water professionals in Kenya. The association’s purpose is to facilitate the sharing of experience, professionalism, best practices, networking opportunities, and solutions to challenges. WASWAK became a Blue Community on June 22, 2025.

Pokot Outreach Health Right (POHR) is a registered Community-Based Organization (CBO) working at the grassroots level in West Pokot County, Kenya. West Pokot County is home to the Pokot community — a pastoralist society facing unique socio-economic, cultural, and environmental challenges. PWHR became a Blue Community in July 2025.

The Kisumu Youth Water Sanitation and Hygiene Parliament (KYWP) is one of nine regional WASH Parliaments in Kenya. Its principles include climate justice and gender equity in WASH as well as youth leadership integration in the water sector. KYWP joined the Blue Community in July 2025.

Water Journalists Africa (WJA) is a non-profit media development organization with a membership spanning 50 African countries dedicated to reporting on water, climate change, and wildlife. Established and run by Blue Community Ambassador Fredrick Mugira, it achieved the designation of a Blue Community on July 25, 2025.

Binti Africa Transformational Organization (BATO), a national NGO in Kenya, strongly believes in the fundamental principle that water is a human right, a public trust, and not a commodity. BATO achieved the designation of a Blue Community in August 2025.

Hope Givers Foundation (HGF) achieved the designation of a Blue Community on November 10, 2025, as first partner in Malawi. Based in Malawi’s capital Lilongwe, HGF is a registered nonprofit organization promoting environmental protection, community health, and climate justice, with a strong focus on access to clean and safe water.

4APioneer Ltd is mobilising funding, coordinating implementation, and ensuring governance and reporting of the community owned Amani Kibera Water Project in the Kibera slums of Nairobi, Kenya. 4APioneer Ltd achieved the designation of a Blue Community on January 25, 2026.

SAWASHI - Safe Water & Sustainable Hygiene Initiative from Kakamega, Kenya, works to improve access to safe, potable water for vulnerable communities. It designs and implements sustainable WaSH solutions in schools, healthcare facilities, places of worship, and public markets.

Kakamega Youth Water Parliament (KaYWP) is a beacon of hope and progress in western Kenya. The organization is committed to advocating for transformative change within their community and beyond. Kakamega Youth Water Parliament was designated a Blue Community on 6 April, 2026.

MAYA, the Manica Youth Assembly from Mutare, Zimbabwe, is «youth driven by integrity in environmental justice, gender justice, livelihood and socio-economic justice». On 25 April, 2026, MAYA was designated a Blue Community – the first one in Zimbabwe

Environmental Defenders (ED) are an environmental conservation and human rights organisation dedicated to protecting biodiversity and the rights of indigenous peoples across Uganda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. On 8 May 2026, ED were designated a Blue Community and joined the global network

‘Go Green Save the Environment’ GGSE is a Non-Governmental Organization based at Nkhata-Bay Boma, Malawi, «fully dedicated to advocating for all citizen’s responsible behavior towards the planet that all humanity and all other God’s creation call home». On 28 May 2026, GGSE joined the Blue Community.

Radio Bonesha FM was founded on 19 February 1996 in Bujumbura, on Lake Tanganyika, Burundi, at the height of the crisis that was engulfing the country. At the end of May 2026, Radio Bonesha was designated a Blue Community and joined the network.

RISECOM - RISE COMMUNITIES AFRICA is a non-profit entity, addressing community challenges in Uganda through different interventions, through community and media centered approaches. By beginning of June 2026, they became a Blue Community and partner in the network.

JustGreenTz is a youth- and women-led environmental organization dedicated to promoting environmental protection, climate action, and sustainable community development in Tanzania. In June 2026, JustGreenTz was designated a Blue Community and joined the network.

Roots&Rights Initiative is a youth led, community rooted, action driven organisation based in Kampala, Uganda, «taking non-violent action against extractivism, fossil expansion, and economic systems that exploit people and land». In June 2026, the Roots & Rights Initiative was designated a Blue Community

MAPASA, the Management and Policy Analysis Students’ Association, is an official, university-sanctioned student academic association at the Civil Service University (CSU) in Banjul, Gambia, Africa. In June 2026, MAPASA was designated a Blue Community and joined the global network

Tsogolo Foundation (TF) works with vulnerable women, children, and youth in Zomba District and sorrounding areas of Malawi. It provides a platform where women identify strategic gender issues and seek redress using locally available resources. TF is a Blue Community since June 2026.

CECIDO, the Centre for Children in Distress Organisation, is an NGO established in 2017 and based in Lilongwe, Malawi. Its thematic area include WASH programs. CECIDO was designated a Blue Community and joined the network in mid-June 2026.

Namsal Climate Concern International NCCI is a climate action grassroots organization whose mission is to contribute to nature and earth’s biodiversity through habitat enhancement and environmental conservation. Based in West Uganda, NCCI became a Blue Community in June 2026.

Kenya Youth Parliament for Water (KYPW) is a youth-led, non-profit network founded in October 2022 to empower Kenyan youth as changemakers in the water sector. After several regional Youth WASH/Water Parliaments from Kenya, the Blue Community designated and welcomed the national KYPW in June 2026.
