The Blue Community Chapter in French-speaking Africa is a region defined by language, including countries where French is still spoken as a first or official language. These countries were once colonies, protectorates or mandates of France (French West Africa and French Equatorial Africa). This includes the countries Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Chad, Congo, Côte d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast), Guinea, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Senegal, Togo, the Central African Republic, among others.

he Réseau Ecole RadioChico (RERC) in Mali and neighbouring countries in spring 2024 became one of the first three Blue Communities in Africa. Souleymane Guindo, coordinator of RERC, also serves as coordinator for the Blue Community French-Africa.

Blue Communities in French-Africa
| The network Réseau Ecole RadioChico (RERC) is reaching out from the Dogon region to other parts of Mali and to neighboring countries in French-speaking Western Africa: Burkina Faso, Guinea, Ivory Coast, and Togo. RERC was one of the first three Blue Communities on the African continent in spring 2024. |
| The municipality of Kati in Mali achieved the designation of a Blue Community on August 20, 2025, as the first municipality in French-speaking Africa. With a population of 133,192, Kati is the largest city in the Koulikoro region, located 15 kilometers northwest of Bamako, the capital of Mali. |
| The Church of Christ in the Congo or CCC (in French, Église du Christ au Congo or ECC) is a union association of 62 Protestant denominations, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The ECC Kongo Central, designated a Blue Community, is a provincial Council of Churches. |
| Merina Dakhar and Keur Mor Ndiaye are two municipalities located in Senegal. In February 2026, they were designated Blue Communities. |
| Six villages in Mali’s Dogonland committed themselves to the values of the Blue Community at the end of February 2026. At the end of March 2026, the mayor and village chiefs have formalised this decision by signing the certificates and accepting the designation as Blue Communities / Blue Cities. |
| MAPROFAM – Mouvement d’Appui pour la Promotion de la Famille (Movement for the Promotion of the Family), is a Congolese non-profit development NGO founded in 1998, with its headquarters in Mbanza-Ngungu in the province of Kongo Central. MAPROFAM was designated a Blue Community on 28 February 2026. |
| AAJSD Agro Business (Association Aide Aux Jeune En Situation Difficile / Association for the Support of Young People in Difficult Circumstances) is based in N’Djamena, the capital and biggest city of Chad. AAJSD was designated a Blue Community and joined the global network on April 25, 2026 |
| IAMDES TOGO is working in Togo's Lake Zowla region supporting indigenous communities to strengthen their skills and resilience in the face of biodiversity degradation and extreme poverty. In May 2026, IAMDES TOGO was designated a Blue Community. |
| SELAMO is an acronym and stands for Sustainable Environment for Life And Mobilization. As a non-governmental organization (NGO), it is based in Yaondé, Cameroon. On 12 May 2026, SELAMO was designated a Blue Community and welcomed in the global network |
| The Réseau Africain des Médias RAM WASH is a Journalist Association based in Dakar, Senegal. It operates under the slogan «For sustainable solution-oriented journalism!» In mid-May 2026, RAM WASH became a Blue Community, joining the global network. |
| FATNATRE stands for «Facilitation of National and Transboundary Transhumance for Livestock Herders».Working to improve the living conditions of livestock herders, pastoral populations, and nomadic communities in Niger, FATNATRE joined the Blue Community in June 2026. |
| SMART Center Cameroon Ltd, based in the costal municipality of Limbe, in the Fako Division of Cameroon, offers «SMARTech: Simple, Marketable, Affordable, Repairable Technologies for water, sanitation & sustainable livelihoods». In July 2026 it joined the Blue Community. |
| Youth Association for the Promotion of Patriotism and Citizenship in Mali (AJPPC-Mali) was established only recently, in October 2025. One of AJPPC’s key objectives is to combat water scarcity and help communities gain access to water. On 1st of August 2026, they were designated a Blue Community. |
