The Blue Community movement in Latin America has a long history, dating back over 10 years. Some of the most significant battles for the human right to water and sanitation have been fought in South America and continue to be.
However, the Blue Community in Latin America has not been very dynamic in recent years. Only the two Blue Universities in Brazil regularly participated in and contributed to the Blue Community network. Only few new partners have joined the Blue Community during the last years and some of the existing Blue Communities seem not longer active. But this is about to change.
End of August 2025, the Blue University of PUCPR (Pontifical Catholic University of Paraná), led by Professor Elias Wolff and his team from the “Water Committee – PUCPR” took on the Blue Community coordination role for Latin America, with the goal of engaging more universities, as well as municipalities, churches, and NGOs in the network (see Blue News here).
If you know of any Latin American institutions or organizations that might be interested in joining the Blue Community, please let us know. We look forward to seeing the Blue Community family grow and strengthen.
