On 20 March 2026, for World Water Day, the first Blue Communities in Italy were designated: The City of Udine in the north of the country, and the Union of Municipalities of the Madonie Mountains in Sicily, in the very South of Italy. The Centre for International Volunteering CeVI took up the Blue Community project in 2024 and is successfully coordinating the efforts. Among many activities, they published a website, a video, and different materials including a little booklet (all in Italian).
