Mexico: Unfair increase in drinking water rates in Jalisco

At least 22 civil society groups protested the 9.65 per cent increase in drinking water rates approved by the Jalisco Congress. They denounced that the charge for this public service has become unfairly expensive, as it is a constant violation of the human right to this resource, both due to the poor quality of the water supplied by the Intermunicipal System of Drinking Water and Sewerage Services (Siapa) and the constant cuts and suspensions in supply.

Dry Germany: First districts introduce water withdrawal bans

In Saxony-Anhalt, many districts are banning the withdrawal of water from rivers, lakes and wells. For amateur gardeners, this means that the summer will be dry – every drop of water counts.
Several regions in Saxony-Anhalt have restricted water extraction due to persistent drought. Other districts are considering similar measures or calling for restraint. This was the result of a survey conducted by the German Press Agency among districts and independent cities.
Specific bans are already in force or will soon come into effect in Dessau-Roßlau, the Altmark district of Salzwedel, Jerichower Land and Mansfeld-Südharz, and will soon be introduced in the district of Stendal.

France: The ‘France eau publique’ network is warning of the risks posed to the environment and health by the ‘Duplomb law’.

Across France, citizens, NGOs and scientists are mobilising this weekend to protest against the proposed law, which aims to remove constraints on farming practices. Among other things, the text proposes the reintroduction of pesticides that are highly toxic to bees. It is due to be examined on Monday.

Uganda: Kampala is modernising its water network with the help of French funding.

The Ugandan capital is launching a major project to extend its drinking water network. Led by VINCI Construction (Sogea-Satom), the project is being financed to the tune of €92.4 million by the French Development Agency. The project aims to improve access to water for 1.5 million people by 2027. This project will strengthen the economic ties between France and Uganda.

Togo: Access to drinking water in Lakes Region. Three new boreholes inaugurated by Esther Gabiam

On Friday, 27 June 2025, the Honourable Esther Ayélé Gabiam, Member of Parliament, inaugurated three photovoltaic boreholes in the Lakes Prefecture. These installations were carried out with the support of the Kuwaiti NGO Direct Aid. For the occasion, Esther Ayélé Gabiam was accompanied by her colleagues Jonas Atsou Drafoè and Irène de Souza, as well as Minister Jean-Marie Koffi Ewonoulé Tessi of Access to Healthcare.
