Farmers in the Mezquital Valley threatened by water shortages: Asael Hernández.
The PAN deputy warns that regional agriculture is facing a water crisis and questions the fate of the water plan proposed by the federal government.
While acknowledging that there is indeed discontent in the Mezquital region over the lack of water to irrigate crops, federal deputy Asael Hernández Cerón denied accusations of a lack of attention to farmers.
“All those who have contacted us have always been attended to, because we are aware of the problems that have worsened in recent years”, he said at a press conference.
The plurinominal federal deputy of the National Action Party (PAN) pointed out that although the water plan is a positive investment, “because everything that improves hydraulic infrastructure is well received, it is worrying that it is to bring water to Mexico City”.
He explained that a farmer in the Valle del Mezquital sows an average of one hectare of alfalfa, in which he invests around 40,000 pesos, but he denounced that they intend to leave them without water for six months from October.
“There is dissatisfaction because so far they have not talked about how they are going to help the farmers. The crops are going to die and there is concern because agriculture is the economy of the families”, said Asael Hernández.
At the end of the second session of the Congress of the Union, the PAN deputy reported that he had presented five initiatives to reform the law on national waters and the law on the social and solidarity economy, among others.
He also highlighted as an achievement the fact that he had just presented a point of agreement requesting the fumigation of the Endhó dam to combat the spread of the Culex mosquito.
