The National Youth Association for the Promotion of Patriotism and Citizenship in Mali (AJPPC-Mali), Fench-spaking West Africa, was established only recently, in October 2025.
As a national association, one of AJPPC’s key objectives is to combat water scarcity and help communities gain access to water. In its commitment to the Blue Community, AJPPC states:
As a national association in Mali, we will help to promote the value of water through awareness-raising and information campaigns via television and social media in Mali and elsewhere. We will also advocate with our highest authorities in particular, as well as with international organisations.
AJPPC has taken part – and continues to take part – in World Water Day and World Sanitation Day. It carries out daily activities such as cleaning drains and planting trees, but also has been seeking social partners to help drill boreholes for communities in need. AJPPC has also participated in a patriotic and civic awareness campaign on water and sanitation. And it plans to carry out a community-focused reforestation initiative this August.
On 12 August, International Youth Day, AJPPC plans to organise two key activities to mark the occasion: a sanitation initiative in the morning and, in the evening, a patriotic and civic awareness campaign on how to ensure access to safe drinking water for all, how to maintain it, and the harmful consequences of using water in plastic bags, featuring experts in the field.
As a national association in Mali, AJPPC is working to support the highest authorities in the implementation of the national water and sanitation policy. To do so, it advocates with the publicly funded water supply and sanitation services and provides support and advice to these public services with a view to improving the quality of public services for the population. AJPPC is finalising the signing of a strategic partnership between the organisation and the relevant public services to support it in carrying out these activities.
Other activities AJPPC lists:
- We have highlighted cases of abuse and provided support to vulnerable communities.
- We are helping to run awareness-raising campaigns within our communities on the dangers of bottled water and the consequences that arise from its use.
- We also raise awareness of the importance of water in human life through round-table discussions in local neighbourhoods.
- We plan to organise a major press conference to promote access to safe drinking water in order to put an end to the use of bottled water.
- We intend to extend and apply this principle of monitoring and evaluation across the whole of Mali.
On 1st of August 2026, AJPPC-Mali was designated a Blue Community and joined the network (see here).
