Reverend Veronica Flachier lives in Quito, Ecuador. She is a Lutheran pastor who currently serves as president of the Ecumenical Human Rights Commission of Ecuador (Comisión Ecuménica de Derechos Humanos -CEDHU). She was cochair of the World Council of Churches’ WCC Ecumenical Water Network and a member of the International Reference Group for 11 years. Today, she is a member of the WCC Just Community of Women and Men International Reference Group.

In this corner of Ecuador, agriculture and water are the lifeblood for thousands of farming families who, generation after generation, have produced cacao, oranges, and plantains to sustain the entire country.
However, the entire area is threatened by the El Domo mining project, which would severely disrupt the ecosystem and the community’s water sources.
