On August 20, 2025, Kati achieved the designation of a Blue Community as the first municipality in French-speaking Africa (see here). With a population of 133,192, Kati is the largest city in the Koulikoro region. Located 15 kilometers northwest of Bamako, the capital of Mali, it sits on the Dakar-Niger railway line. Kati is a thriving market town. A large livestock market is held there every week.
