At least 85% of Bolivia has access to drinking water. According to government figures, basic sanitation has also reached 65% of the country’s population, thanks to the work and efforts that have been made.
Drinking water coverage in Bolivia has reached at least 85% of the population, according to figures from the Ministry of Environment and Water, which also estimates that basic sanitation is 65% complete.
“At the national level, we have 85 per cent coverage of the population in terms of access to drinking water and we are at 65 per cent in terms of basic sanitation, figures that encourage us to continue developing new projects and implementing water programmes to reach all of our population (…) because water is life, it is the right of all Bolivians and it has no political colour, that is why we have been working as a national government”, said Yerson Carballo, the vice minister for drinking water and basic sanitation.
“We know that we are currently suffering from phenomena such as floods and droughts due to the issue of global warming and climate change. So it is important to raise awareness about the responsible use of water,” said Carballo.
At the same time as coverage is increasing, work is being done on the responsible use of water. In La Paz, for example, all dams are currently over 90 per cent full, but far from being an endorsement of excessive use, there are still recommendations to protect reserves for times when the rains stop.
