The non-profit organisation Infirmiers de Rue has published a detailed map showing the locations of free drinking fountains and toilets in Brussels city centre. This indispensable tool is useful for all Brussels residents and tourists, but especially for homeless people, for whom the current temperatures make everyday life even more difficult.
The map published by Infirmiers de Rue lists thirty-three drinking fountains and eleven urinals in Brussels. “In this 2025 edition, we see a mixed picture. The number of water fountains has increased from 30 to 33 in the Pentagon and from 63 to 85 in the suburbs. This improvement is particularly welcome during periods of intense heat. However, access to free toilets is deteriorating. The Pentagon had 16 facilities in 2021, compared to only 11 in 2025, mainly due to a lack of maintenance and deterioration. Some municipalities, such as Forest and Koekelberg, still have no free public toilets,” explains the non-profit organisation, which is seeking structural solutions to end homelessness in Brussels, Liège and elsewhere.
“Without access to water and toilets, it is very difficult for people living on the streets to maintain their hygiene. This plan helps them cope until they have accommodation with running water and sanitary facilities again,” says Emilie Meessens, the coordinator.
While the initiative is particularly aimed at homeless people, whose living conditions deteriorate significantly when temperatures peak in the capital, the map of free drinking fountains is also an invaluable resource for anyone looking for drinking water.
