The Blue Community Network can welcome a new partner in Africa. On October 20, 2025, the Church of Christ was designated a Blue Community – the first Blue Church in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The Church of Christ in the Congo or CCC (in French, Église du Christ au Congo or ECC) is a union association of 62 Protestant denominations, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Within the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), it is often simply referred to as the Protestant Church, as it federates the vast majority of the Protestants in that country. It is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Councils and Churches in the Great Lakes and Horn of Africa.
The ECC functions as a religious institution, and provides a central administration and a spiritual forum for the numerous Protestant denominations. It functions under a national synod and an executive committee.
The ECC Kongo Central, designated a Blue Community now, is a provincial Council of Churches. In its commitment to the Blue Community it states: «The Église du Christ au Congo (ECC) Kongo-Central seeks to join the Blue Community Network to affirm its faith-based commitment to water justice and environmental stewardship. As a church, we view water as a sacred gift from God and believe access to clean water and sanitation is a fundamental human right. ECC Kongo-Central will contribute by mobilising communities, promoting sustainable practices, engaging policymakers, and sharing theological insights and local experiences. Through collaboration, education, and advocacy, we aspire to be a model of faith-driven leadership in protecting water as a common good and to inspire other African churches to join this global movement for water and human dignity.»
In addition to the three core principles, the Église du Christ au Congo (ECC) Kongo-Central is committed to promoting water conservation, pollution prevention, and community solidarity. ECC also plans to strengthen partnerships with schools, NGOs, and local governments to promote clean water management and collective responsibility. Through faith-based teaching and community action, ECC Kongo-Central seeks to safeguard water resources for future generations.
Pastor Herman Bamata, member of ECC and Advisor at ECC Kongo Central presidency, celebrates the designation as a Blue Community:
«ECC Kongo Central joined the Blue Community Network to uphold water as a human right, promote sustainable practices, educate communities, and collaborate globally for equitable access to clean, safe water.»
Rev. Kolade Fadahunsi, coordinator of the Blue Community Chapter Africa, welcomes the Congolese Church of Christ in the network:
«I am delighted to welcome the Church of Christ in the Democratic Republic of the Congo to our vibrant and growing Blue Community Africa.
As a church with many responsibilities to people and a duty of accountability to God, taking water justice as a mission is a bold step that will further strengthen the sacred ministry of protecting God’s resources and promoting their fair and equitable distribution.
I look forward to hearing positive news and seeing our community spread through the Church of Christ.»
