Proceeds from World Water Day 2026 in Wetzikon will go towards Viva con Agua projects in Uganda.

In 2024, Stadtwerke Wetzikon, the public service provider of the town with its 27,000 residents in the Zurich Oberland, became a Blue Community. For World Water Day 2026, a dedicated employee of Stadtwerke Wetzikon managed to persuade the local cultural center Kulturfabrik Wetzikon to organise a charity event. The Blue Community Switzerland exhibition was on display for a week. At the event on 21 March, Mayor Pascal Bassu gave the official speech (see here). The Swiss Blue Community, Viva con Agua, was also present with an information stand.

The final accounts for the event are now available. Thanks to sponsorship from two companies (Geoinfra-Ingenieure with CHF 2,500 and TRM Swiss AG with CHF 2,000) and net proceeds of CHF 1,035 from the evening itself, the total proceeds amount to CHF 5,535 (just over USD 7,000). The artists, Panikhertz and Björnout, the sound and lighting technicians, and all the helpers waived their fees and provided all services free of charge.

This sum will be handed over to the Blue Community ‘Viva con Agua’ for its water projects in Uganda (see here).
